If you’re planning to escape the hot summer in Mysore by visiting Switzerland or Leh, Ladakh in J&K, you might end up spending extra on travel and hotels. To avoid the heat, an alternative option is the “Snow City Theme Park” built in Mysore, where you can experience snowfall without leaving the city.

Mysore City’s first “Snow City Theme Park” was inaugurated on April 14, 2019, by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, a member of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family.

Located in Nazarbad at the Regency Theatre on Lokranjan Mahal Road near Mysuru Zoo, the Snow City occupies the revamped Regency Theatre. The structure has been renovated to resemble the Kremlin, the fortified complex in Moscow, Russia, overlooking the Moskva River.

The land of Regency Theatre is owned by the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru, and the promoters of Snow City have reached an agreement with the royal family to establish the new facility there.

During today’s inauguration, the temperature inside the Snow City dropped to a low of minus six degrees Celsius, which is slightly colder than similar snow cities where temperatures are typically maintained at minus four to five degrees Celsius.

The Snow City will offer an experience in snowballing, mountain climbing, snow jumping, sliding, sledding, dancing, snow skiing, and snow sliding along with DJ music in an area of 10,000 square feet. There are a selfie spot and a waterfall at the entrance.

Visitors to the Snow City in Mysore will pay Rs. 280 per person for a 45-minute session on weekdays, and Rs. 300 per person on weekends. For tourists, the cost is Rs. 350 on regular days. Additional charges apply for parking, and cameras and mobile phones are prohibited inside.

Guests must store their valuables in lockers, and an in-house cameraman offers photos for purchase upon request. There are nine sessions daily from 10:15 am to 8 pm.

Trained staff oversee activities such as gaming and skiing, with rescuers on standby. Participants receive boots, helmets, thermals, caps, gloves, and jackets, as temperatures are below freezing. A drying area is available for clothes.

Snow City attractions include Snow Disc, Ice Sliding, Snowball Throwing, Snow Bike, Snow Mountaineering, Ice House, and Snow Hotel.
